EDUCATION
The ocean fulfils a variety of functions that are indispensable for the existence and survival of all species, including humans. It is an essential source of water, oxygen, food and biodiversity and an important climate regulator. Despite its importance, there is a lack of awareness about the marine species that inhabit our coasts and the problems they face. Through environmental marine education and experiential activities, that encourage being in contact with nature, we contribute towards caring for our ocean and its biodiversity.
RESOURCES
Due to the need for marine educational material in Chile that is simple and practical, we have developed more than 20 resources to motivate people to learn more about the diversity of life that inhabits our ocean and complement learning. Free digital downloads are available through our website, allowing access to a greater number of people and regions. We hope to contribute towards a greater knowledge and care of marine life.
COLLABORATION
Educating about the ocean and the challenges we must address are such big tasks that we cannot face them in isolation.
We collaborate with other organizations, institutions, people and communities to solve educational and environmental challenges.
Through collaborative relationships and community outreach, we encourage an enriching dialogue between the formal processes of education and the wisdom and experience of local communities and their environment.
ABOUT US
Oceanosfera is a non-profit Foundation that was created in June 2019 by three Marine Biologists. We are based in southern Chile, in Valdivia, Los Rios Region.
MISSION
To educate and inspire people, especially children, to care for our ocean and its biodiversity.
OBJECTIVE
Create spaces that promote a positive interaction between people, the ocean and marine species, through education, science, art, culture, sports and recreational activities.
